My 2022 Fitness Journey

It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I am slowly seeing results and I am so happy with the progress that I’ve made. I wanted to start this year off on a healthy note, and that meant feeding my body right and taking care of my body with physical activity. And trust me... I was a total newb to the gym for the first month or so. This is a blog post dedicated to those who don’t know where to start, don’t want to get judged, or just need some inspiration on how to get started. If you are at all interested in how my fitness journey for 2022 has gone thus far, and how I got started, then keep on reading.

How did I get inspired by fitness?

I have always loved to run around and be outside since I was a kid, so I considered myself an active person up until college. Back then, I was not running any sports or doing any sort of fitness activity unless I was being graded on it. But at the start of 2022, I started to take my fitness more seriously. And why was this? I have to say...I got roped into the New Year Planet Fitness deal, and I got it. I have been going to Planet Fitness ever since, and I don’t regret it. My TikTok feed has been curated to basically show lifestyle and gym content, and I am not mad about it.

I was starting to see changes in my body when I did my workouts. And when I can see real changes (like being able to pick up a heavy object I wasn’t able to weeks ago, for example), it makes me want to keep going and get inspired by new content, and new ways to work out my body.

What are some apps/resources that have helped me with ideas/tips along the way?

Unexpectedly, TikTok has become an app & a resource that has given me different tips on body movements, and ideas for new sequences to do in the gym. Another app I love is the Body by Blogilates app because it is a very affordable, monthly membership that you can use to have workout exercises planned out for you with tips. Also, the MuscleWiki website is a great, basic website that provides good info when it comes to exercises & stretches for specific parts of the body.

What is my current gym workout weekly breakdown?

On the weekends, I usually like to rest my body or do active rest (intense walking, for example, or lifting lighter weights). But on the weekdays, it has all the action. Tuesdays are for legs/glutes. Wednesdays are for my back/shoulders. Fridays are for arms/cardio. I like to make sure every part of my body is targeted, but also being smart about what parts of my body are going to be sore, how they affect other parts of my body, etc. If that doesn’t make sense to you, imagine how hard a leg workout would be after an intense arm day two days prior?

What is my purpose for working out?

My purpose for working out is for my body to be more fit, in a way where I do not get winded when going up the stairs, I can lift a good amount of weight, and I can keep up with my dogs and their active lifestyles. I am not trying to work out in order to lose weight or build muscle, but if that happens, then that is okay. I love working out with my friends, too, as we get to hang out but also push each other to accomplish our next fitness goals.

How does working out make me feel?

Working out makes me feel so good! I can have an hour or so to myself and just focus on doing exercises that test my body’s capabilities, and my mind’s ability to push past those capabilities. It is such a great feeling to have people in your life compliment you on your physique because you have been working out. Not only do I feel good on the outside, but I feel good on the inside as well. I feel so strong and confident knowing that I can push my body to lift heavy weights & mentally pass my physical limits. Working out is something everyone should try in a gym at least once. But home workouts are also good!
