How I Created My 2022 Vision Board

If you think it is too late to create a vision board for 2022, it is not! There is no wrong time to create a vision board for the new year. In this blog post, I will be explaining to you all the process behind the vision, and why vision boards are actually helpful in manifesting what you want out of your life. If you are interested in creating your ideal life or just love creating collages, then keep reading! I will be sharing what my 2022 Vision Board looks like at the end of this post.

First off...what is a vision board?

According to Oxford Languages, a vision board is “a collage of images and words representing a person's wishes or goals, intended to serve as inspiration or motivation”. And we are all about inspiration here on Inspired by Diane! Now that we know what a vision board is, let’s talk about how we start creating it.

Break up goals/intentions/manifestations into 6 categories

The first step in creating a vision board is establishing what your vision is. To do this, I have found that breaking up your intentions into categories helps make it more feasible to get a grip on what you want to manifest. The categories I used were:

  • Physical

  • Mental / Emotional

  • Career

  • Financial

  • Love

  • Friends

You could write these intentions on a piece of paper, you can type it out, whatever helps you visualize the life you want. Here are some examples of what I have documented for some of these categories:

  • Physical — fit but not skinny, working out when I want to

  • Financial — figuring out budgeting that works for me

  • Love — going on more dates

These do not have to be big aspirations. If you want to change something in your life, figure out what needs to happen to make that change, and document it!

Write your goals as if you already have them

This next step is in line with the previous step, but now we are putting more thought into this. Instead of saying “I want to go on more dates with my partner”, you could write “I have been going on many happy dates with my partner.” By writing these goals as if you have already accomplished them / have them, it helps your mind get into the right mindset.

Use stock photo websites and look up images by keywords

Once you have broken down your goals into categories & written them in the past tense, now comes the fun part. We now get to put these goals into visuals! There are plenty of different resources to get the images you are looking for. I used Unsplash.com, but you can also use Pinterest, Google Image Search, or any other stock photo website that offers photos free to download. Canva also has some great stock photos you can choose from.

Some search terms I used to find my photos included: travel, friendship, money, wealth, holding hands, grocery shopping, etc.

Compile saved photos onto a collage desktop wallpaper or mobile image size

Now that we have found the photos we want to put on our vision board, we have to save them in a place where we can download them again (if needed). I created my collage on Canva (there is a free version), but you can also create your vision board on The Landing, Pic Monkey, and other collage websites. Since I do not use my laptop daily, I created a desktop wallpaper size (1920 x 1080 px) for my collage, as well as a collage that was mobile image size (1080 x 1920 px). I still have my vision board set as my phone wallpaper, and I do not intend on changing it! Which goes on to my next point...

Place your vision board in an area you will see consistently

If you put your vision board in an area you see on a daily basis, it will subconsciously be in your mind without you putting any effort into it. Some ideas are: putting the vision board as your phone wallpaper, framing your vision board and placing the frame on a wall you walk by every day, etc. Your mind will be working behind the scenes on ideas on how to accomplish your goals, and by having it at the forefront of your mind without effort, it will be easier to come back to it.

Speak your goals into existence!

I believe that sharing your goals with your friends or family helps put them into existence. I felt so much better about the likelihood of my goals being accomplished once I told them to my friend. It makes it feel so much more real once you actually put your goals out into the world by spoken word.

Vision boards are helpful!

By having a visual reminder of what you want your life to look like, it is less pressure on your mind to imagine your goals & what they look like since you already have pictures of your goals. Also, creating a vision board helps you stay self-aware & helps you reflect on what is important to you in your life. Clarifying what you want your ideal life to be like is already a level-up on the person you were last year, so get to making that vision board (only if you want to)!
